Re: [Avid-L2] ScriptSync and Phrase Find no longer available

Me too.  I have used it for a several narrative short films, but my primary use is for docs and doc-style corporate, fundraisers, etc.

Completely agree.  Script sync is the number 1 differentiating feature that keeps me committed to using Avid.

I strongly disagree that the loss of the phonetic link is not that important. Without it I could just as well use paper transcripts. The link between dialog and script is key to ScriptSync
and Phrase Find's success. There is nothing out there like it and saves a massive amount
of time in both documentary and feature work.
This would be a huge loss for editors. It is  one of the truly unique parts of Media Composer.
I wouldn't move to V8 without it.

Hi Dave,

This is a really good question.  The answer is that if you want to use Script Editing in Media Composer you do not need ScriptSync.  Nexidia is our partner who provides the phonetic indexing engine that allows you to match script to speech.  We created ScripSync and PhraseFind with Nexidia.  Boris has a different deal than Nexidia.  The key differnece is that Boris makes applications and Nexidia provides technology that works in the background.

Partnerships are a very difficult thing to manage.  There is a constant software maintainence angle that needs constant monitoring.  What if a partner gets sold or goes out of business?  In the end compatibility for customers who want to move forward on new software is the thing that hurts our users the most.  I'm not a huge fan of providing partner software in Avid software.  I much prefer our new approach with the MediaCentral platform that allows partners to access Media Composer in different way.  It's better for our partners, Avid and most importantly our customers, who will now get the ultimate in chose and access.  I completely get the "its easy" comment.  But is not that simple.  Frankly, Avid has to find a way to intergrate this techology and make money at this, and Nexidia has to value their IP and get back that value.   We are still having discussions on how we can move forward.
