Thanks Scott. I understand about advance notification. It's a balance. We want and expect to get a deal done everyday. MC 8 is about moving to subscription and changing he way we are selling the product. We had other reasons that we couldn't hold the release, I can't talk about that. I wish we could be more pro active about letting the user base know what's going on. Sometimes we can and sometimes we can't. We have to take the beatings and keep our quiet when we can't. Thanks for the nice post. I guess the best I can promise is that I will try to be more pro-active about letting you guys know what's going on at Avid.

We do appreciate the updates. I think what the issue here is the communication from Avid is reactive, not proactive. The SS and PF thing is a really big deal to a segment of users...a very important segment to your company's future. This is not an issue to be just left in the Read Me or the kb.
The head-scratcher for me is why Avid didn't let everyone know ahead of time, very publicly (rather than having Alan find it and post it here) and "take the legs out of the issue" right away or simply hold off on the v8 release until these contracts were settled. If you had posted on these and other forums something along the lines of "hey folks, MC8 is just about ready. We are still negotiating a contract with Nexidia for PF and SS licensing. Once that is complete, the initial release will happen....", there would be far less "spinning out of control".
The way this happened makes it look like Avid was trying to sneak one by on us. I am sure that is not the intention, but you should understand the outside perspective.
