RE: [Avid-L2] Copying SxS cards

Here's the rub:  If you are recording 4 mono channels of audio (like say from a Sony PMW320/350 or the like), you will destroy the audio structure and your files will import with one, mixed mono channel of audio if you do not use the Sony Content Browser to move the files.

I've never used any manufacturer's software to copy cards or disks. Mac OS Finder copy is fine and fast - even a 32 GB SxS card in a USB2 reader I can copy whole in about 15-20 min. Some folks also recommend ShotPut Pro for tasks which require multiple secure copies. If you know rsync, you can probably roll your own command lines for the same tasks. Not a bad idea to run a quick checksum on the card contents and run the same checksum on the copy to make sure it's good.

Is it really necessary to use the Sony software.  Can't the card be read and just copy the entire file structure.  I know in the past I've copied IIRC the "bpav" folder and that worked.  Is there a new structurel;?
