Well, when you are not making money (profit) anyway, it's hard to convince a board of a public company to lose more.  It's about the stock price in the end. 

Avid is trapped by the success of it's product in it's big niche.  They can't pull off an FCPX (meaning radical changes, not the CF that was the release and EOL of 7).  The user base simply would not allow it and there are too many competitors close enough to Media Composer that (not without pain, though) can step in.  This is why hardware and the success of the hardware is so crucial to Avid.  It needs to make a profit and give the company some breathing room to maybe do a couple radical things with the software products and invest in development.  I am going to be very interested to see where Avid's numbers come out, once they figure their own damn books out!
