Upgrade the clients 6.5 system to the latest 6.5 patch (6.5.4?), and you should be fine. It's free in the Avid download center. Projects are actually backwards compatible but without the patch, you will have problems with bins due to changes in version 7. Patching the 6.5 system fixes the issue.

My client needs to maintain the 6.5, but I’ve just recently went back to AVID after many years so my set up started with 7.
