General feedback that the Apple version is not as good as Memtest (higher rate of false positives).

There is no need to buy or download a RAM checker if you have the original discs that shipped with the Mac.  Startup from the original disc while holding the D key to load Apple Hardware Test.  You will want to run extended tests in loop mode (Control+L), preferably overnight, as a single test is not guaranteed to find a RAM fault.  Another benefit of Apple Hardware Test is that if it is a hardware failure other than RAM, it may find it.  A RAM checker alone will not check every other component.
