It wasn't Maestro. The SGI Box was Fusion/Illusion I think. We had one... I swear it was on an SGI. I used it for effects work - rig removal and what at the time was nothing more than glorified Animattes.
The death of that box was that it had a MAX of an hour of SD uncompressed storage, so you couldn't conform a full SD show in a single pass (with handles).
But we could be talking of two different things... I don't recall any Avid product being called Maestro.
