Re: [FR] -- Re: [Avid-L2] MXF Folder Numbering Question

In a unity-type environment, the folders must be preceded by the name of the computer that 'owns' them, or they will not get scanned for new media databases- eg my-Mac-pro.02  You will not be able to write to them unless you 'own' them. Further, mc will always write to folder 1, (or computername.1) unless that is 'full.'  (Can't remember the limit). On a local drive the folder shouldn't use letters- and every drive will get 'scanned.'

Yep, they can be numbered anything you like.
IIRC, you can not use any letters or characters though.

Feature Request:
In some cases I'd like to have the ability to use a dash or an underscore.
Allowing text would be a nice addition too.

Cheers,

B

You shouldn't have to re number the folders, no.

I have a media drive that's getting too full. I want to take a few of the numbered MXF folders and move them to a second drive in order to free up space on the first drive. There are 15 numbered folders in all, and I'm now copying over numbers 13, 14, and 15 to the new drive.

My question is this, however; These folders that I'm coping to the new drive -- do they keep their original numbers (13, 14, 15) on the new drive? Or do I renumber them (1, 2, and 3) -- since these are the only Avid media folders on this new drive?

These two drives will both be mounted at the same time since they are all about one specific project.

Thanks,

David
