I've got a few more questions for anyone who's already doing this...
Any comments on running external DVI monitors on the new imacs/macbook
pros? Can you run a couple extra monitors on the imac, and 3 off a
macbook?
I think I've read that people had 3 screens running off the macbook pro
a few months ago (2 via thunderbolt, a third via HDMI), but the absolute
latest ones were maybe only supporting 2 externals?
What are the best choices for stand-alone external storage -
thunderbolt, thunderbolt-to-eSata adapter, USB3?
Are any of the third-party i/o boxes working well with this kind of setup?
Cheers,

No thunderbolt, but slots and that allows for a USB-3/Esata combo card, or an extra GPU, or an ATTO card - none of which you can can do with iMac. Of course, you gotta buy a monitor or two, and avid doesn't need an extra GPU, so it depends on your use, I guess...
