Re: [Avid-L2] OT: legal copy of MC

Maybe it's because this week I have seen several jobs walk out my door to companies in my area that Autodesk knows are running cracked software and it a pretty sore point to someone who has over the years spent a over 5 million us on hardware and software.

The software is now so cheap there is no excuse to not go down legitimate channels and simply support the people creating the software we use to make a living.

What the original post was saying is how can I get into the sand professional software for less money than you suckers paid so I can then undercut you and take work away from you. And then I will find back and ask questions on how to achieve things that you will all willingly and happily tell me how to do.

I'm happy helping people, I'm happy to advise but I was trying to he a wake up call to the OP of if you want to play with big boy toys you have to put your money where your mouth is. Saying I come from a poor country is no excuse, I have friends in Ghana in India and Pakistan in Indonesia and more who make less than the OP stated. If you make 8000 a month and allocate 1% of your income to software you still pay for a full priced media composer in a year.

It's a ridiculous state of affairs that people complain about smoke at 3500 being overpriced when I paid literally 1 million us for my first flame with ciprico disk arrays (50,000 for 2 gig of dual interleaved ram for sgi onyx). All the kit is essentially free today so why look to save more money. If he takes three days looking for a bargain and saves 30% even at his own 8000 a month he is no better off than just ordering the damn thing online.

Anyway, I apologise if I was rude, the anger mostly came from the idiot saying buy the educational version.

I completely agree about the piracy issue, I'm calling you out for being overly aggressive with any posting that is slightly outside the norm. This is the second in one week that could have been addressed in a softer manner and kept the poster from despising this list. We gain nothing by running people off for minor things.

Glen, software piracy is not the way to be an editor-  Mike is 300% right.  We don't "chill " over this kind of bullshit.

JDS.

Sent on the run, sorry about the tippos

If you can't afford 1k for a new copy directly from the source then maybe editing is not fit you.

There are plenty of opportunities in the food and beverage industry I hear.

Not joking. If your very first job doesn't cover the cost of the genuine software from the manufacturer then you are not a pro editor you are playing at it.

Next you'll be telling us you edit without scopes and you don't need a broadcast monitor because you've set up your view sonic screen just right and it looks great in your bedroom when you turn the big light off and work with just your Winnie the poo night light.

They may still be offering a discount for people who are switching.

Subject: [Avid-L2] OT: legal copy of MC

Greetings,

I'm a long-time FCP editor who has generally worked with post houses running FCP 7 and Premiere. But lately, I've begun developing a relationship with a company who uses MC on Macs. I downloaded the 30-day trial, but would now like to buy my own, fully-licensed, legal copy of MC.

Any info on where to buy a legit used copy, or any gotchas to look out for are much appreciated.

Thanks!

Ethan Benninger
