It was the waybackwhen email earlier this week that set me off ;-)

I think Avid should take a page from FCPX: When the tool tips are turned on, not only does it tell you what tool the icon stands for, but shows the standard keyboard shortcut (if there is one) as well. This was extremely helpful in getting me up and running faster on X.

I keep the standard keys on and customize the SHIFT keys only, but I see Your point regarding the (outrageous) cost.

I actually advocate against the acquisition of an "Avid Keyboard". The simple reason being that because the full keyboard is customizable, as soon as one starts using the software "for real", the painted functions on the keys often bear little resemblance to the user's settings.
And also "you spent how much for a keyboard?"

Hey Shirley!
Thanks for the shout-out . . .
and also glad the site was helpful!
A couple books to checkout too, are:
Steve Cohen's book, "Avid Agility"
and of course I have to pimp my book:
Cheers,

Ahh, I have no doubt it will come back quickly. Avid may have it's limitations, but it does make sense at least. When I transition back after working on FCP, I make a few mistakes, then the fingers start to remember.
Glad Ben's site helped.

Indeed he is. Printed out the shortcuts from his site. Amazing how much I had forgotten about MC....

Well, I already can see how my memory has slipped! Is there a good, concise, alphabetical list of keyboard shortcuts that is readily accessible? Thanks.

You can open the project from ANYWHERE, including the drive it sits on, without having to move it into the Shared>... folder. That's what the "new" External option is for, though you can simply point the Shared folder path to the external drive as well.

Hey all -
It's been a LONG time since I have had a gig on MC...mainly because all the MC houses in my region went to FCP and then to Premiere.
Anyway, a client is bringing over a drive with material and a project file for a gig started on Symphony (not sure what version). I have MC6.5.2. So, a couple of "old brain refresher questions" (not in front of the system right now):
Will there be a version/platform issue?
Avid projects live in the Avid Projects folder and I believe that is in the Library folder on my Mac (10.7.5), correct? So I can just copy his project file over and it will show up in Shared Projects?
As far as media goes, if I have to copy over his media how does on relink in MC? Will the system look for the media files on available drives on start up?
I did a really down and dirty audio cutdown of a 13 minute piece to 6 minutes on (yes, really) iMovie on my iPad in my hotel and on the plane yesterday. Exported as an m4v. I am assuming that transcoding to a ProRes file via MPEG Streamclip is needed so I can have this cut as a reference?
Thanks in advance. Actually really looking forward to getting back on the Media Composer and test my memory and muscle memory!
Scott
