Re: [Avid-L2] "Gravity" cut on Avid?

OK, not to belittle the film at all, nor the amazing talent that made it great cinema...because it was a fantastic film on all levels, but what does it matter what NLE it was cut on?  I've never understood this. We know that features...98% of features...are cut on Avid.  And there is a smattering of Lightworks out there, and some who still might use FCP.  But really, it's a given that a feature will be cut on Avid.  This seems like something that marketing folks would love to tout...but editors?

When Cold Mountain was cut on FCP...I can see that being of note. An editor went against Apple's own advice and used FCP to cut a feature film shot on film.  Something that hadn't been done before.  So when a newcomer comes along, it's news.  When something that is used all the time...eh, not really.

Forget what it was cut on...I'm more interested in how they accomplished the look of zero G...all the time!  Except for Sandra's hair that Neil Degrasse Tyson got fixated on (sheesh Neil, this wasn't ACTUALLY shot in zero G...they can't fake EVERYTHING!).  I'd like to know how they did the camera work, or the VFX (your arena Steve!) to accomplish all these shots.  And the sound work! The sound of space....that too hooked me. It sounded almost underwater.

Loved the film. Saw it in 2D because I despise 3D, and I was totally riveted in 2D. I wish there was an IMAX showing in 2D out here...I'd love to see it that way.

Thanks. Was a challenge to work on and the response has been amazing to witness. Honoured to be a part of it.

Anyone know if Gravity was cut on Avid MC?
If so, Avid better promote the heck out of that fact.

My girlfriend and I saw it yesterday in IMAX 3D.
Best use of 3D ever; great quality and totally motivated.
Prediction of awards to come:
Best Picture, Best Director, Best Editing, Best Score.
Possible Best Actress award, because Cate Blanchett's performance in Blue Jasmine is so amazing.

Cheers,

B
