Re: [Avid-L2] The New MacPro

I disagree somewhat to this assertion.

It is true Apple has moved ahead faster than their peers - removal of
optical disk, floppy, iPhone, etc. But it has also flopped with Cube,
ADC, "puck" mouse, iOS Maps, etc. Apple also removed PCI, serial ports,
VGA, and ethernet ports from their computer products yet the industry
continued to used them for years with success.

With MacPro 2013, it is true that the puck will move to a PCIe-less
environment, not because PCIe slots are inferior or not needed but
because MacPro IS the platform. You don't have any choice. If HP decided
to remove PCIe slots from their computer today you can buy comparable
products from Dell, ProMax, and other vendors. You and 3rd party
manufacturers will still have an alternative. You or AJA or Decklink do
not have this luxury with the Mac platform.

Someday Thunderbolt cost will be negligible for the end-user and it will
be powerful enough to handle external/multi GPUs. Then again many
assumed TB 2.0 was going to do that....
