[Avid-L2] Resolve 9 conforming strings explained, maybe? <-- by scott freeman

Here are the Resolve 9 commands I came up with to use. I had to figure out these
different online conforming situations, thus, I had to figure out how to write
these string patterns. Lets see if this makes sense as I explain it to you.

personal disclaimer - this is from memory and maybe someone can explain it better. I love to be wrong and learn, so please correct me. I am just trying to start some dialog on these subject matters (Thank you, Knowledge is power!!!)

these strings use,,, of course with out the quotes in Resolve 9!!!

"*/%R" - this string tells the Resolve 9 to use the file name plus the suffix
as the "Reel No"

"*/%R/%D" - this string tells the Resolve 9 to use the folder name the file
lives in as the "Reel No" (of course if memory serves me correctly you would not
want to put a suffix name for a folder name!!!)

the * is a wild card or It tells the Resolve to look in subfolders something
like that maybe.

the / is just specifying end of one command and now here is the next command

the %R is the name

the / is just specifying end of one command and now here is the next command

the %D is now saying the folder name.

I should go check the manual, but from memory I think in the manual it says
that the Resolve reads this command left to right, but for some reason it makes
more sense to me to read it from right to left.

- I hope this makes sense

now to use these strings:

In the Resolve set up the following:
1) Launch Resolve 9
2) in DaVinci Resolve 9 - click on the gear icon at the bottom left of the screen (this is the "project settings" button. by clicking this button the "Project Settings" is revealed)
3) click on the "Master Project Settings" Panel and scroll down to the "Conform Options" in the right hand area of the "project settings" dialog box
4) next to the words - Use Timecode: Put a bullet next to "Embedded in the source clip"
5) Put a check mark, by clicking next to "Assist using reel names from the:"
6) Put a bullet, by clicking next to "Source clip file pathname"
7) Next to "Pattern" type in the following (of course with out the quotes!!!) "*/%R" for file name plus suffix or "*/%R/%D" for folder name
8) click apply
