Re: [Avid-L2] Woeful AMA links situation

Hi Paul:

I was seeing similar errors with firewire drives self-ejecting on a
Mac Pro. Couldn't isolate the problem to drive/cable/firewire port, and
it was more frequent the more firewire drives I had hooked up at once.
Switching to e-sata for external drives solved the issue.

As for relinking AMA files, if you create a temp bin and reload your
AMA files into it, that should also refresh the AMA links in your other
bins, bringing them back on line. So you're not trying to relink
anything, but going through the same procedure you used when initially
linking to your AMA sources. After reloading the files I typically
delete the temp bin. If that doesn't do the trick, maybe make sure your
other bins with the unlinked AMA files are open when you reload the
files into your temp bin.

Cheers,

I hooked up a 5th fw drive to my MC5 (5.0.3) system, and was probably a third of the way exporting the Qt… but when I came back in the room, there was an error message about drives not being properly ejected, sure enough all the external drives were off-line. (Nothing was jostled, faulty fw cable?)

Once I manually relinked to the AMA files that I needed in their respective bins, they would come on-line, show up correctly in the sequence… then for unknown reasons later, go off-line again. (Project never closed, nothing I see changed) What gives?

That is, the bin that used to know/see the links and did not experience the drive trauma, now is NG too, is that standard?

I read about a work-around of making a new bin, populating it with the desired clips then attempting to do (plain) reLink to get "empty" AMA clips to see the media there. I must have it wrong because ReLink seems to be all about Avid media only.
