When you mention "the Z800 carriers" I'm assuming you mean the
four internal bays on the bottom front, which indeed only are designed
for standard 3.5" drives. I believe the HP-approved mount for a SSD
is their "Hard drive carrier assembly - For inserting two SFF drives
into optical disk drive bay 570577-001"

This mounts a pair of "Small Form Factor" drives in one of the
"Optical Disk Drive" bays. There are three of these ODD bays on the
stock Z800. The top bay usually has a DVD drive, and the next two
usually are covered with blank plastic plates.
