[Avid-L2] Re: TC# to Frame# translation

By start time code do you mean the start time code/ Frame Count of where the clip falls in the edited sequence or do you mean the start time code of the actual clip so the time code/ Frame Count would relate to the actual VFX clip sourced. I would think the latter but what do I know?

And by "I" I mean the intern. And even though that's a paid gig, and this task includes sitting in a chair in the air-conditioning, it's still a total drag of a task. It would be really nice if there was a bin column that I could duplicate the Start TC column to and it would automatically math out the corresponding frame number so I could use it in a pull list for the VFX department. But I am going to give Bouke's suggestion a go.

I asked our AE if in groups and multigroups if you go back and change the time code of an original source clip that was used to make the group if it would update in a sequence cut from the group clip and he wasn't sure. He did say if you change the clip name that does ripple through so maybe the time code would. If that does work I would think you adding another metadata element that's sort of like an aux time code that would ripple through but I don't have a suitable project to test this with. Keep us informed what you find. Nothing like a little more metadate to make our lives easier.

I didn't consider needing this before they started to do the cut so I don't know if it's something that would work retroactively on the clips. Or if I would have to go back and overcut everything. But that might be a plan for future shows. So that somehow as they are making the Avid dailies media form the ArriRaw sequence that they load up the needed data in the DPX column or something. I may seriously take you up on that, but let me look into it a little bit before I ask you to do a bunch of unnecessary work.

Because I need to make pull list that refer back to frame ranges in image sequences. And while there is the DPX and VFX columns it looks like I will have to fill out each one at a time. And I have 3857 master clips. I could really use a bin column that I can duplicate TC into and have it automatically generate the corresponding frame number. Maybe I'm overlooking it. Does anyone know of a simple way to get this done in Media Composer?
