Thanks for the explanation, no doubt that is where our problem
lies. It's now Saturday here, so it will be Monday before I can
check the settings.

However, I'm still not sure I'm getting it. Our program is
delivered in mono, and all our production/clips are mono. It's a
simple production; anywhere from 1 to 3 people, each person's
voice on a separate audio track, music (also mono) down on track
4, output to tape, mono on both left and right channel.

My gut tells me panning shouldn't have an effect here, but would
it? (My gut's been wrong before!;-)

Also, if at the time of digital cut, the 1k tone is at the same
spot as always on the deck's audio meters, could the "loudness"
still be 3db too high?

Sorry to take your time on what must be pretty basic stuff these
days....
