Re: [Avid-L2] DNxHD115 versus ProRes MXF - quality difference?

At 23.98p, DNxHD 36, DNxHD 80, DNxHD 115 and DNxHD 175 are all 8-bit YUV
(4:2:2 colour sampling).
DNxHD 175 X is 10-bit YUV (4:2:2) - this actually uses more spatial
compression than DNxHD 175 since it has more bits per pixel at the same
data rate.
DNxHD 4:4:4 350 X is 10-bit RGB 4:4:4.

The ProRes offerings at 23.98 are:
ProRes (Proxy) which is YUV 4:2:2 at 36Mb/s
ProRes (LT) which is YUV 4:2:2 at 82Mb/s
ProRes which is YUV 4:2:2 at 117Mb/s
ProRes (HQ) which is YUV 4:2:2 at 176Mb/s
ProRes 4444 which is RGB or YUV 4:4:4:4 at 264Mb/s

The two codecs are very similar (both are DCT based). If you have a
Nitris DX then the DNxHD codecs are encoded/decoded in a hardware codec,
leaving your CPUs free for other things, but I doubt that is relevant to
a discussion of student workflows.
