It is almost a certainty that the 'guess' will be incorrect with any format
that is not an Avid "native" format (H.264, ProRes (at least in 5.5.3),
etc.). In this case, the Field Motion column shows "Unknown", and you MUST
set this to have correct motion adapters.
It is also almost a certainty that the 'guess' will be correct with any
format that is recognized as an Avid "native" format (DNxHD, XDCAM, P2,
etc.).
