Couldn't resist.
I hear you about the geographic limits of the discussion. I had had mixed experiences with the union in NY when I did network jobs. Some good experiences and some bad. There's nothing black and white about this issue. The only thing that is getting clearer from the hearsay I get from other editors is that abusive conditions are on the rise and becoming the norm at a few places. It is hearsay, but they are old and trusted friends.
I'm glad to be out of it. After reading articles, posts on forums and listening to industry podcasts about the disruptive trends that are changing our industry I became convinced about a year or so ago to change the type of jobs I was doing for the last twenty years and go with newer trends. I can now have a personal life as well as a fulfilling career. I hope it lasts.
