[Avid-L2] Re: OT: USB Hub recommendation?

I've had good luck 7 port Belkin model I got at Target. After a few years it seemed to get a little iffy so I swapped it with a replacement and it has worked fine. I really don't know if the original had a problem at all but I had dongles and a keyboard and trackball plugged into it. I get the feeling after a while the power supply wasn't delivering enough current and or voltage so sometimes the keyboard or the dongle would not be recognized. I should have tried just swapping the power supply but I shot gunned the whole thing just to be safe. In general I seem to see lowered performance from device wall wart power supplies especially for external drives after a while. I'm not sure what wears out maybe there are some capacitors that get leaky. I don't think transformers ever wear out other than burning out but I could be wrong. The power supply is usually the hardest working part of a circuit so it makes sense that it would wear out before other circuits and components. Make sure to get a powered hub to avoid overloading the hub.
