Well of course! If you doggedly pursue excellence in mobile and mini
devices and expend no energy on your former flagship, then most
certainly the flagship will get overtaken...
Imagine the power of the Mac Pro Tower had the resources expended on the
ipad, had been directed there. This is not to say it would have
happened, just thought of what that could have grown into, in terms of
power.
The Mac Pro is essentially dead in all ways that matter. Apple is
returning to it's earlier dogmatic ways. I wonder if anyone noticed
that the shiny, new, and better MBP has the RAM soldered in again.
We're back to the late 80s.
What makes a classic workstation mandatory you ask? How about an
optical drive. Since Apple seem determined to remove them from every
computer they make. Or perhaps legacy connectivity so that you don't
have to re-purchase every peripheral in your studio every three years
when Apple decides to change it's ports on whim. Maybe someone might
want to do a hardware UPGRADE instead of a replacement every 2-3 years
on the Apple product cycle.
I have a Thunderbolt iMac with extra screen. It's very nice, but until
recently wasn't certified by Avid.
Oh well, another day, another Apple.
