Howdy-
The "new" 12 core is essentially unchanged in the supported 2.66 GHz configuration. The only difference is the "new" 2.66 GHz ones ship with 12GB of RAM.
The other two 12 cores got minor speed bumps. I have clients working successfully on the old top-end system which has now been bumped up to 3.06 GHZ.. I can't believe that it would not work fine nor to I expect Avid to ever test it.
I've never had anybody tell me that MC seems faster with more than 12 GB of RAM. If that's all you will be running, there is no point in buying more. If you will be running other apps at the same time, it may make a difference. If you are running Adobe products, especially the CS6 version of AE, you need every GB you can scrounge. I would go for a minimum of 24 GB in that case.
