I'm with you there.
I also stand by my opinion that good work can be done on an LCD. It's
definitely not as sexy looking as other technologies. And you have to pay
to get confidence in a panel.
If the question is: Will I grade differently off a plasma or OLED?
Definitely yes. And I honestly don't know if that's good or bad. It just is
what it is.
That's the thing about color grading. It's a blend of technology, craft and
biology. Beyond doing black / white / gray balance, it is imprecise. An
approximation.
Over on the TIG there was a big discussion about how people over 40 are
seeing Sony's OLED slightly different than those under 40. It was a totally
unscientific sample, admittedly - but there does seem to be something to
it. But who's right? The under-40 or the over-40? They're both right.
K-razy.
BTW - I would buy an OLED if it had the viewing angle I need in my room.
But it doesn't. So I won't. No sense in me being the only person in the
room who can see accurate picture - so for now, in my setup, the LCD wins.
