Re: [Avid-L2] Share a clue with me...

I don't know how difficult it would be. Take a multi layer sequence with overlapping video and cutaways stacked up, etc. The open up EDL Manager and Get Sequence. Set the Video Track selector to ALL V. It makes a flattened sequence. It's not perfect but it's a good start. If they implemented being able to do that for a sequence in the timeline, maybe even between In and Out markers, and only do clips that are straight cuts it would be a huge head start. Leaving shots with dissolves or keys alone so the editor can go back and determine how to handle those. But a large majority of the work would be done automatically.

Now, I know it's technically that editor's job to 'flatten' his sequence before handing it to the finishing editor, but that doesn't always happen. So, my technique has always been to highlight the uppermost clip(s,) drag it down to the next track, then highlight the other clips, drag down, etc., until only the 'uppermost clip' is in the timeline - and clips in higher tracks are keys or layers.
