Heads up everyone..........I wanted to let you know about an upcoming price change to the Media Composer 5.5 to Media Composer 6 upgrade. Effective April 1, 2012, the online Avid Store pricing for this upgrade will change from $299 to $499 US MSRP.
Why are we implementing this change now? Back in July 2011, we began offering Final Cut Pro users a Final Cut Pro to Media Composer 5.5 crossgrade that enabled them to save 80% off the full retail price of Media Composer 5.5 and many editors made the move prior to the release of Media Composer 6. Due to the timing of the subsequent version 6 release—and because we wanted these new customers to easily get the latest features more affordably, since they just made a purchase—we decided to offer the Media Composer 5.5 to Media Composer 6 upgrade for $299 US MSRP when purchased as a download from the online Avid Store. The boxed version of the same upgrade, available from Avid directly and through our reseller partners, is $499 US MSRP.
Both the download and boxed version of the Media Composer 5.5 to Media Composer 6 upgrade not only include the editing application but three bundled software titles—Avid FX 6.0.x (aka Boris RED), Sorenson Squeeze 8.x , and Avid DVD 6.4.4 —all valued at over $1,800 on their own. The price change is to bring parity between our Avid Online Store and reseller offerings. The $299 US MSRP upgrade price has been available online for almost four months, and with almost 2 weeks left before this change that gives customers enough time to upgrade to Media Composer 6 at this special price before the April 1st change.
I would like to also remind everyone that upgrades from the latest version of Media Composer are always priced less than upgrades from older versions, so it pays to stay current.
