I don't want to have to rename the directories. It's a pain in the ass. And since v6 came out it no longer supports adding characters after the (workstation name).# on Unity which I had been able to do for years I'm having to that and is sucks. I'm seriously considering rolling back to MC v5.3.3 for the next couple of projects.

This would require launching media composer so if it's important not to launch avid then I see the need. I do see a potential conflict if a bay is accessing the media while the database "rebuilder" app is running there could be a fight for control over the .msm etc.... which might hang the accessing Avid.

And if you are on a Unity shared network you can only rebuild the databases for the directories that have the proper name to associate then with that particular workstation. But wouldn't it be handy if you could build or rebuild the database for any directory and any time you chose to? Like being able to take a folder, or a set of folders, and drop them on a little application that would go through and build the media database files for those directories? And it would be nice if it didn't care what the name of the directory was or which workstation it was associated with (if it were on Unity let's say). I'm just saying it would be nice if someone who was smart and wrote workflow enhancement tools for a living were to write a tool like that. And then sell it for an nice profitable price. I would probably be interested in buying something like that, if priced reasonably, like under $100 US. And if enough people on this list expressed and interest maybe there might be someone on this list that would be willing to make a go of creating such a software tool. Maybe.
