Re: [Avid-L2] MC 6: Exception: A serious error has occurred!

Hi Mark,
I don't know if this helps but...
I was discussing a future project with a local Avid maven today
and he recommended using AMA to create consolidated clips (that
no longer depended on AMA) and work with those. He felt AMA was
still too undependable to use throughout an edit.

I've been running into a hell of a lot of problems with MC601 and
AMA
losing all my files. Every single time I relaunch the program I
end up

the
project hasn't changed drives, but most likely letters (I'm on
Windows 7).
Anyway, i found this work around at the avid forums, but it just
gets old.
Was wondering if anyone had heard any better?

I have found this error to occur most often on projects that have
been
moved from one drive to another, or from one computer to another.
Not
exactly sure why, but it has to do with AMA not being able to
correctly
link up to the original files on the drive. There is a
workaround, although
it is rather annoying:
*[1] Go to your source/record and timeline and turn OFF video
monitoring
(so that all you see is black).*
*[2] Open up ALL of your bins that contain AMA material. This is
sort of
like giving Avid a kick in the pants to go find those AMA files
and link to
them correctly*
*[3] Close your bins*
*[4] Go back and turn on video monitoring and edit away*
The reason you want to make sure to do step #1 is that if you
don't you'll
get the "serious error" over and over and over again, as it tried
to
refresh the video display. The annoying part? You may need to
follow this
procedure every... single... time you open the project.

Thanks
Mark
