Re: [Avid-L2] Any good (cheap) playback options for multi-screen (multi-channel) work?

I'm happy to report that the freeware app Rupert suggested (Zach Poff's
Multiscreener) worked quite well for syncing playback of multiple 1080p
quicktimes on networked computers.

Caveats:
- Wireless networking didn't work for long, but ethernet and firewire
networking seemed reliable, using a separate computer to drive each of 3
monitors.
- It took some fiddling around to make sure the client and server apps
were all broadcasting/listening on the same network interface.
- ProRes LT quicktimes offered nice smooth playback on a couple of mac
laptops and a tower that were 2-4 years old, but higher-bitrate DNxHD
quicktimes were unable to play back smoothly.
- trying to drive more than 1 monitor from the same computer gave poor
playback -- lots of stuttering.

Cheers,
