I now clarify:

Perhaps I should have noted that there is no QUALITATIVE difference
between hardware and software solutions today, since it's all digital
no matter which.
There are so many OTHER variables in your rhetorical questions that a
speed measurement alone cannot be definitively provided. But
obviously, hardware solutions are faster than software ones, by their
very nature. They are just not necessarily better in quality.
