Exactly the opposite Ross. QT X on Snow Leopard was built on QTkit but with one special pipeline for playing H.264 (not editable) files, where it bypassed QT entirely and went straight to Core Video and Core audio for GPU enhanced playback.
QT X on Lion is built on AV Foundation (the replacement for QT in applications on OS X from here forward). Since it's not built on QT any more, it has a different feature set. Lion QT X supports editing and export functions again, since they are available in 64 bit in AV Foundation.
