I'm running OS 10.6.8, but otherwise we have the same configuration so,
hopefully, I can help. First off, are your speakers plugged directly
into the Mini box? There are RCA jacks on the back to connect amplified
speakers to. Then check this link

with the "Important" paragraph. I have as many tracks as I need and no
more. Also, make sure System Settings>Sound>Output>Select a device for
sound output is directed to Matrox MXO2 Mini Audio Output.
Everything is running smoothly on my system except for two minor issues.
First, system alerts (for example, the 'whoosh' sound when an email is
sent in Mail) don't play. Second, the volume controls on the keyboard no
longer control levels. If I am in an app or website that has no built in
level control, I am compelled to adjust my speaker volume directly. I

Matrox about these. Not sure if there's a way to deal with this.
And, speaking of contacting Matrox, their telephone support is free,
very good, patient and helpful. They are not, unfortunately, very
prompt. Their number is 866-270-4641.

I've tried to change the Sync mode - as I think this is where the
problem is, but every time I click on it, to change it - it goes back to
"Automatic". I think the HDMI is overriding the audio output options.
