So my favorite Avid rental house here in LA stepped up to help me put together a few pieces that I could use in order to cut using my MBP and a Nitris DX box so I could hook up an external 42" HD plasma monitor. The idea was to use the Avid PCI-E Laptop Adaptor for the Express card slot in my 17" MBP. We hooked it all up but whenever we booted the computer with the BOB turned on we got an immediate kernel panic that locked up the computer.
The MC 5.5.1 software works fine when the PCI-E Adaptor is in the slot but without the cable hooked to the Nitris BOB. But then the second you hook up the cable and restart - BAM! - kernel panic and lockup.
Some little bit of research seemed to indicate that the Nitris DX is simply incompatible with my processor. I'm running OSX 10.6.8, Intel Core i7, with 8 GB of RAM. As for the Model Indentifier, it's a MacBookPro8,3.
Does ANYONE know whether or not this should work? It seems impossible that the Avid Nitris DX BOB wouldn't work via their own PCI-E Laptop Adaptor card. Just impossible. The idea that I can't monitor out is unreal.
But if this is true, what options might I have? Are there any Matrox options that would work with my MBP that would get me to an 42" HD plasma monitor, either via HDMI or SDI?
Baffled and frustrated,
David
