Job Summary
The Caltech Academic Media Technologies (AMT) team provides support to a wide array of events across campus including public lectures, classes, conferences, and meetings. Past events include Nobel Prize press conferences, Caltech Commencement, TEDxCaltech, lectures by scientific luminaries and public figures, spacecraft landings, and undergraduate Ditch Day. AMT recordings and promotional videos are featured on Caltech's iTunes U and YouTube channels. This position is an opportunity to support Caltech's unique and dynamic academic and research community.

Under direct supervision, this position provides campus-wide audiovisual and multimedia support. This includes crafting audiovisual support solutions, solving technical audiovisual issues, operating and maintaining audiovisual equipment, editing and encoding audio and video footage, and working with a skilled team on exciting Caltech events.

The Career Level and Salary determination will be based on the applicant's experience, skills and competencies as they relate to the requirements of this position. We have the ability to hire either:

Information Technology / Media Services / Assistant, grade 38
OR
Information Technology / Media Services / Associate, grade 39

Job Duties
As a member of Caltech's Academic Media Technologies team, this position will:

* Assist team members in all aspects of video and audio production including setting up and cabling equipment and operating video cameras, microphones, audio mixing boards, lights, green screen, computers, and relevant equipment.

* Non-linear digital editing of high- and standard-definition video, audio, images, movies, and animations.

* Creating computer motion graphics for video productions.

* Assist team members in crafting audiovisual solutions for campus events such as attending site visits, coordinating vendor support, and preparing quotes and invoices.

* Assist team members in implementing audiovisual system integration solutions in classrooms, conference rooms, laboratories, offices, and auditoriums across campus.

* Provide presenter computer and device support during meetings, conferences, and lectures.

* Encode video for various distributions including iTunes U, YouTube, DVD, Blu-ray Disc, and upcoming new formats.

* Operate live streaming hardware and software.

* Knowledgeable in current trends in audio and video formats for multiple deployments.

* Maintain audiovisual equipment including cameras, microphones, mixing boards, projectors, and related equipment.

* Meets deadlines within a fast-paced environment with high energy and a positive attitude.

* Ability to work with flexibility, efficiency, enthusiasm, and diplomacy both individually and as part of a team.

* Demonstrate commitment to diversity and inclusion of varying views, including the ability to interface with people at all levels at Caltech.

* Maintain a high level of quality control through reviewing, editing, and proofing own work and work of others.

* Remain abreast of relevant industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies, and effectively apply this knowledge to all aspects of the position.

* Perform work in accordance to Institute and regulatory agencies (e.g. OSHA, ADA) safety standards and practices.

* Keep track of hours worked on projects, events or tasks.

* Other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications
* Must have an Associate's degree or equivalent with at least 2 years of related experience.

* Ability to operate audiovisual equipment such as a video camera, audio board, microphones, and speakers.

* Working knowledge of various computer software (Microsoft Office Suite, audio and video editing software) and operating systems (Mac and Windows).

* Ability to work calmly under pressure and present an attitude of attentiveness, courtesy, and professionalism when dealing with other team members, trustees, faculty, administration, staff, post-doctoral scholars, students, community, visiting speakers, and event patrons.

* Effective problem solving skills.

* Physical strength to lift up to 40 pounds. Ability to bend in all directions, squeeze with arms and hands, crawl under furniture, climb stairs, and work outdoors in all kinds of weather. Ability to push and pull rolling items (e.g. carts).

* Must be available to work overtime, evenings, and weekends.

* Must possess a valid California Driver's License or have the ability to obtain one before employment begins and maintain it throughout the course of employment.

Preferred Qualifications
* Bachelors degree in communications, information technology, film and media studies or equivalent highly preferred.

* Audiovisual support in a university setting, lecture hall or auditorium operations preferred.

* Innate interest and excitement for research and science a plus.

* Producing content with Final Cut Studio (Final Cut Pro, Motion, Color, DVD Studio Pro, Compressor, Soundtrack Pro), Adobe Creative Suite Production Premium Suite (AfterEffects, Photoshop, Premiere, Media Encoder, Encore, Audition), Avid Media Composer, Ustream production tools, and Episode Pro a plus.

* Course capture hardware and software (Mediasite and Echo360) experience a plus.

* iOS and Linux operating systems a plus.

* Sense of humor preferred.
