He wasn't really on a network.
I actually figured this out for Zach eventually. I never saw his computer set up, but I was guessing it was an invalid character in a file name. In the end, it was even simpler - and worse - than that. The solution was that he had named his internal drive "Applications" and his "media" drive something like "Media/Stuff." The SLASH MARK in the name of the drive was what was causing the syntax error. If I had seen the drive name on his desktop, I would have been able to figure it out immediately. What I DON'T understand is that he claimed that he'd disconnected the offending drive at one point (per my suggestion) to see if it would launch properly and it didn't. So either he didn't disconnect it, or, even disconnected, somehow the file name was still in the system somehow and was causing the issue - maybe since it was assigned as the media "scratch disk" the Avid was looking for it? But I'd assume if a drive is disconnected the Avid would just move on. One way or another, as soon as he changed the name to "MEDIA" instead of "media/stuff" MC could get past that AMA error.
