[Avid-L2] Re: Avid Event in Burbank

While it is true that raster independence can exist on a software or application level -- you still need I/O (unless your source material and delivery specifications are limited to file-based media). And you still need to display that signal on an external monitor (whether you are transmitting the signal via HD-SDI -- or HDMI).

The question is whether or not the Mojo DX and Nitris DX boxes are hardware-limited. From an HD-SDI point of view, the Mojo DX is currently hardware-limited -- as it does not support dual link and no mention has been made (that I am aware of) regarding a possible upgrade path to 3G. And I don't know if there are other hardware limitations which might prevent either of those boxes from processing resolutions above 1080p.

One thing is certain, many of the products manufactured by the 3rd party companies at that show -- support resolutions that far exceed 1080p.

And, so my question/comment was that: is it possible that the release of Version 6 might usher in a chapter where Avid's own hardware solutions are determined to be behind the curve (in terms of resolutions above 1080p) -- compared to the products offered by the 3rd party companies.

Compressing or decompressing frames happens in the RAM doesn't it? I know DX accelerates this process for DNx media but if vers 6 is 64bit and you can throw 32GB of ram at it...? I don't know but i'd like to...
