There are two elements to this surely.
The software being released from SD & HD frame sizes. And output options.
The software is the first step. Much like Avid DS can cope with greater than 1080 but is still limited to 1080 Nitris I/O ( Nitris classic prior to AJA)
even our FCP legacy (7) with Kona can do 2K but is limited to 1080 output.
So even with 1080 limited hardware it's a big step if the scaling and LUT translations are slick.
But this will be a big step for avid so I'm not expecting it all in one hit.
When supplying to professionals who need to make a living from the product we don't appreciate big changes and the risk of problems.
