Re: [Avid-L2] Spielberg Takes a Walk

Interesting - well, he could use fewer assistants and the Avid editor could file his/her fingernails until Mr Spielberg returned from his walk ;-).

Ostensibly there to honor Spielberg's role as an industry "game changer", the chat was free-ranging and peppered with great anecdotes (Not one single word about 3D the entire evening. And I mean not... one).

Spielberg replied that yes, absolutely, he still cuts on film. However, the very last film he shot, "War Horse", they cut on an Avid. Spielberg said he wanted to see what it was like to work on an Avid.

He said that what he loves about film was that it gives you these 30 or 45 minute walks between notes and when you have to come back to see the result of your notes, when the editor and the assistants are all hacking and chopping and taping. He said he loves to walk around the lot and think about his decisions, and really confront the results of those decisions in his head.

He noted that for his next film, "Lincoln", he's pretty sure they'll be returning to cutting on film.
