Not sure what version you are on, but AFAIK, you can change the clip
names in the Avid and it will not destroy the AMA relationship.
There is a column (Source File ) that indicates the the original file.
In version 5.5 there is also an additional bin heading called Source
Path the indicates the exact AMA file directory.
