exFAT is FAT 64. It is a newer format. Windows Vista and newer can read and write to it. OSX can only read from it. Files can be up to 16GB each instead of 4GB with FAT32.

Subject: [Avid-L2] ExFAT drive format
So, I'm reformatting a USB portable drive from MAc to PC format on a
Windows 7 box. I notice the two format choices are NTFS and exFAT.
Wikipedia tells me that exFAT is a newer format intended for portable
drives and that it is cross-compatible between Windows Vista (or
newer) and OSX.
Has anyone experimented with this? What are your experiences?
If the answer is "None", then I'll try it anyway and report my
findings to the Avid-L2 hive mind.
Thanks in advance,
