Apple probably did this because subclips were always broken in FCP. Rather than fix them, they did this. It may be better in some ways, worse in others. Sometimes I like seeing subclip head frames in a bin.

In FCP X, it appears you can select a section of a clip and add keywords. That
effectively makes it a subclip without existing separately.

Basically it allows you to subclip, in a way. The trimming model is interesting.
Some of the ways to deal with clips and transitions and even audio in the
"sequence" are very interesting. There are definitely a lot of obstacles to
using iMovie for professional work, but seeing some of the UI solutions that
iMovie uses in editing definitely show potential. It's THESE things that I think
Apple is considering using in FCP X.
