Hee hee hee. Here was my thinking last year after NAB. Steve Jobs' master plan is to provide the tools to create (on his products), distribute (on his network) and consume (again on his tools). In that context, where does support for stodgy old silly stuff like tape fit in? It doesn't. So why waste one iota of brainpower on that code? No reason to.
