another idea:
If the cam has GPS attached, it can take quite a while for the GPS time to
kick in and reset the clock.
(the offset correction is only send once every 12 minutes or so, and is just
a tiny bit of info that could be missed)
That could explain things...

I'll have to dive back in. It's been a while. I also don't believe in
altering the original camera files in any way, since this is a destructive
change to your camera "masters". As far as THM issues, what I've seen -
using several different applications - is the resulting files have
overlapping TC. Technically this shouldn't be possible, since the files are
recorded in a consecutive manner on the same camera. Unfortunately this
wasn't consistent between projects, so it could simply be a problem with a
single camera's firmware.
