I say: "Bait and Switch." Do others agree, or am I missing something that
I should have known about all along.
Dangle a carrot: before 5.0, one thing used to promote sales of the newest
version was a "great new feature" called Script Sync. Nothing about extra
charges. Then with 5.0 we are told that it will be charged for with this
release, and in the future...
Jiggle the carrot: ...but since we had already received it as an inducement
to buy the last version, it will still be there, no charge.
Rip the carrot away, and make a new offer: We are told that if we want to
upgrade to 5.5, then we will be required to not only pay for it, but pay for
what we were offered at first as an inducement to buy the earlier version.
Is there some reason that I should trust Avid in the future if they "offer"
some other necessary "feature," such as a grouping of all AMA plug-ins into
a paid upgrade service? (Just an example.) Or maybe some kind of digital
rocket-ship that will shoot us effortlessly into the cloud...
Psst... wanna' buy an upgrade? Look at all of these features. Don't worry.
They are part of the upgrade... free. (whisper: "for now")
