1: I like separate boot drives as FCP allows you to upgrade your system more frequently without issues. If you have to wait on Avid to support new upgrades, you will wait a lot longer.
On the other hand, there may not be a lot of FCP upgrades in the traditional sense anymore. :-0
2: Can't vouch for I/O, but I have systems running Kona 3 and Nitris DX.
3: Just get the I/O Express and you don't need anything else. Both MC and FCP work with it.
