[Avid-L2] Re: Avid Compatability Matrix: MC Soft/MAC

Thanks *very* much, Jeff.

When you refer to the new towers are your referring to the "Nehalem"
series and/or the new six-core "Westmere" series? This "new" computer
is a Dual Quad-Core Xeon 2.26 "Nehalem" Tower, circa Q4 2009, acquired
as as an FCP system (specs at the end of this reply).

I have my "tech" scheduled to come by next week to help install &
configure the second hard drive for the Avid environment. If I can
confirm beforehand that my Nehalem tower won't support OSX 10.5.7/QT 7.6
I'll waive-off the visit until I can upgrade from 3.5.9 to 5.0, assuming
*that's* even a possibility. MC 5.5 is the new kid on the block . . .
and on the shelves.

I prefer to edit on Avid whenever possible, and have made due with the
features on 3.5.9 for quite a while. I have no support contract with
Avid at this time, so I'm very much going-it on my own (along with the
kind help of you & the Listers, and other colleagues and advisers). I
compared the Tower's systems specs against both MC 5.0 & 5.5. The
processors appear to be just a bit too slow for 5.5, yet would work with
5.0.

Any additional confirmation I can get prior to the planned upgrade will
be most helpful. I'll keep digging on my won as well.

Thanks again!

often things seem to work just fine - until you notice that something
'weird' is happening... like you can't export a certain video codec or
edls won't write out... you just never know.

and your hardware/software isn't in spec with that list... they won't
even listen to your problem... you'll get the 'reinstall your OS, and
see if you still have the same problem'. So, if you need Avid to support
you - DON'T go outside of those specs. If you are supporting yourself...
try it out... see what happens! :)
