Are you using the zoom tool? When I use Cmd +/-, it always zooms around my selection, and I'm running 6.0.6

Since FCP version 6.0.3, you can zoom in and out on the playhead in the Timeline

even if something is selected.

I've mapped both to single key shortcuts.
