[Avid-L2] Re: The growing trend to use DSLRs for HD video shots.

With both FCP and MC you have to have reel numbers and unique TC in order for dupe detection to work properly. One of the problems I ran into with the FCP Canon EOS plug-in was that you have to keep the files in the DCIM folder from the camera (or a copy of that folder) and you can't delete the .THM files.

I work with a director who likes to organize these files for me into logical folders, since we work long distance. In that workflow, the .THM files (useful as they are) get in the way. This makes the Canon plug-in useless. That's where other apps like QtChange come in handy.

Another interesting app is Magic Bullet Grinder, which I and others have blogged about. It doesn't quite handle reels and TC the way I would like, but it offers the added feature of simultaneously converting the H264 files while also creating proxy files for offline editing or client review (complete with burn-in).
