[Avid-L2] improving Mojo DX/HD performance

We're just moving into HD shooting and editing for our local program.

With playback in full resolution, I'm only getting one stream of
DNxHD 145 playback. With two streams (PIP), I get dropped frames.
The timeline shows mostly red line, with a bit of yellow -
indicating a CPU bottle neck.

However, the Activity Monitor app shows that the CPUs are not
breaking a sweat, maybe one core popping up to 80%, the others
rippling along at 10-15% or less.

I've got a Mojo DX, MC 3.5.1, running on an 8 core MacPro, OSX
10.5.6, 2.26GHz, 6GB of ram, and the GeForce GT120. I'm running
the media off an OSX software raid 1 of 3 internal drives.

Now the system requirements say you need a 2.66GHz CPUs, but
would that .4GHz be causing the problem - especially since the
CPUs aren't maxing out during playback? Would a better
GPU/graphic card help?

Or is the simple raid a more likely culprit, and the yellow in
the timeline a misdirection?

Any input on improving performace appreciated!
